about

(+ Bonus 'Live Booklet' pdf included with every album)

‘The Night Life – Chalk Hill Blue Live’ was recorded in front of an audience on Saturday 26th October 2019 – Milton Court Concert Hall, Barbican. This was an exclusive one-night performance of the album ‘Chalk Hill Blue’ by poet Will Burns and composer/ performer Hannah Peel. Plus the 2 tracks from their Pale Tussock EP.

As Peel traced the lines between innateness and external landscapes using synthesisers, electronic violin and soft patterning pianos through tape echoes, Burns’s poetry harmonised the sonic explorations, inspired by the heaths of Buckinghamshire and the rare iridescent blue-grey butterfly where he lives.

They were joined on stage by pioneering field recordist Chris Watson who interwove, through his modular rack, his recordings of rooks, fox howls, woodland branches, chalk streams and insect choruses taken from the Chalk Hill landscapes.

Actualising the album into life for the first and only time, a trio of Clarinets and Bass Clarinets joined them on stage. Melting into the landscape with their own sonorous dawn chorus, heathland melodies and wood laden chords.

The Night Life (Chalk Hill Blue Live) album was recorded from the sound engineers’ desk at this one-night only performance.
The audio quality is great but not perfect.
However, we’re really proud of the music on that special night and feel it should be shared with you.
